I have been without gluten for a year and working on eliminating other dietary triggers and am slowly improving- to me thats proof in the gluten free pudding :-)

In fact Ive never even heard such a claim before and couldnt find any info in a quick search.

I would recommend veganism not for such a health benefit but most importantly for ethical reasons and because it often encourages you to try new foods and make new recipes. Thankfully for you there are a multitude of very yummy and nutritious gluten-free products on the market now, so going vegan has never been easier. Let me know if you would like more info or to be put in contact with other gluten-free vegans.

You have covered a lot of things that prompted me to start blogging, and in a more professional manner than I probably could accomplish.

I’ve noticed vegans self-diagnosing gluten intolerance locally. While I of course support accommodating those with genuine problems, the recent association of gluten-free with the vegan diet is troubling as you noted. One, for the implication that health, not ethics is the primary motivation for adopting a plant-based diet. Two, because it makes those that are contemplating veganism fear that a healthy vegan diet will be far more trouble than it actual is. I am seeing these two points in action and doing my best to counter with gently offered reason.

Anyway, regards from a fellow skeptical vegan. I hope that you will visit my site and keep me honest in my musings.

I have experience with clinical laboratory testing, and there are simple blood tests for celiac’s disease. If you think you have it (and have insurance/can afford it) just get the test.

The only people I knew who had celiac’s didn’t discover it for a long time and had really horrible digestive problems. It was misery.

I guess the upside is that once the “fad” dies out some really good products for people with celiac’s will remain after all the competition.
